Documentary: Systemic Injustice
Released as the company’s first major equity effort, this documentary investigates the role of Indigenous mascots in perpetuating systemic racism in Canada. It highlights the harmful impacts of such mascots, which contribute to the normalization of racism and the marginalization of Indigenous people.
The documentary gained critical acclaim, with admission to five film festivals and winning two prestigious awards: Best Native American Film at the Latino and Native American Film Festival (2022) and a Special Prize at the 41st Paladino d’Oro Film Festival.
Brad Gallant has been a prominent voice in advocating for the removal of Indigenous mascots, which he identifies as emblematic of systemic racism and white supremacy. His activism addresses the broader culture of Indigenous Racism in Canada and calls for societal and institutional reforms.
Systemic Injustice Course
Derived from the documentary, this course offers an in-depth examination of Indigenous mascots’ impact on societal racism. The curriculum presents compelling arguments about how these symbols:
- Perpetuate societal tolerance for racism.
- Marginalize Indigenous communities.
- Instill a culture of diminished expectations for fair treatment.
